What’s On

The Club is licenced to operate weekends only, and the bar is open regularly from mid afternoon which is when most members gather and take advantage of the Club. A monthly newsletter is circulated to members for updates on what’s coming up, but you can also check the online calendar here for more information.

Events

We also have a series of annual events we organise that are a lot of fun. These include women’s, men’s and kids fishing competitions, seasonal parties such as Halloween, a Commodore’s Ball, annual Prize Giving, and other exciting events such as car rallies. We also put on kids focussed events such as Christmas with a visit from Santa, so there is something for all ages and interests. These events are a lot of fun and an opportunity to meet and mingle with new people, and importantly help fund the Club.

We are always looking to build on what we offer for our members, so suggestions for new activities or events are welcomed, particularly if you are able to help with organising!

Sailing School

We run a great beginner sailing school for kids in the Summer season on the weekends which is run by Roger Mayhill and parent helpers, and is free to members’ kids. We have 6 Optimist sailing dinghies for learning to sail, two sprints for the larger kids, and a large 3-person Omega.

These are perfect for learning to sail in, in the safe environment of Sunkist Bay (although this is also supported by our small safety inflatable).

The next 8-week programme will be starting October 2020 and involves:
• Water and boat Safety
• Getting to know your boat setup
• Getting your boat in and out of the water
• Capsizing
• Tacking
• Gybing
• Points of sail
• Rules of sailing and racing

There are also a number of kayaks and paddle boards that are available for use by any Club member at no cost; easily accessible during Club opening hours, or by special arrangement with a Committee member outside hours.
